Former National Football League Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Charges
Ex- National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge stemming from a incident that took place in May, as his attorney filing a not guilty declaration on his behalf.
Jail documents in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday morning for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the National Football League, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was detained after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an message that he has already filed a documented innocent declaration to the murder attempt allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday early for a release session, Eiglarsh added.
According to his arrest warrant, Brown is charged of seizing a handgun from a security employee after a star boxing contest in May and shooting multiple bullets at a individual he had confronted with previously. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that a bullet grazed his nape.
Eiglarsh said that Brown was simply defending himself from Nantambu.
“The measures he was forced to take were purely in self-protection against the claimed victim’s aggressive behavior. Brown was attacked that evening and behaved within his lawful right to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not right away arrested because at first police did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It only subsequently in May that Nantambu provided a complete account about the event to officers and identified Brown as the gunman, the report says.
From his digital updates, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for a number of months. In a post after the confrontation, Brown said he was safeguarding himself because he was “jumped by multiple people who sought to rob my jewelry and bring bodily harm to me.”
A level two attempted murder charge in the state of Florida bears a maximum fifteen-year incarceration penalty and up to a $10,000 penalty in the case of a guilty verdict.
Brown has dealt with numerous legal issues over the years. He previously had been accused of assault of a vehicle driver, various family violence accusations, failure to pay family payments and further incidents.
In a 2021 match with his team against the New York Jets, Brown stripped off his uniform, protective gear and handwear and ran off the arena, causing his dismissal by the team and virtually ending his NFL journey.
